This online exhibit presents select items from the collection of books on African American culture donated to the Charles Evans Inniss Memorial Library (Medgar Evers College / CUNY) by Mrs. Esther Cooper Jackson, a longtime social activist who has been a crusading editor, a pioneering civil rights leader, and an important resource for scholars, journalists, and filmmakers.
The exhibit is arranged as a series of blog posts. Every post introduces a book or several books from the collection. Each entry contains links to the library online catalog records. These records describe the items and provide “call numbers” that tell you where the book can be found on the library shelves. Additional resources offer information about related people and events and create historical context.
